Energy FIT Initiative
Financing, Incentives, and Training for Remodels and Retrofits
More than 50 percent of energy costs in Routt County are spent to operate our homes, offices, and industrial buildings. The Yampa Valley Sustainability Council (YVSC) and Steamboat Sustainable Business Consortium (SSBC) are partnering with the International Center for Appropriate and Sustainable Technology’s (iCAST), a Colorado-based nonprofit, to initiate a countywide energy efficiency program and reduce these costs.
The iCAST Resource Smart program works with local contractors, financial institutions, and home and business owners to streamline the process of improving energy efficiency in homes or commercial buildings. A similar Resource Smart program in San Miguel County has completed over 136 residential and 5 commercial energy efficiency retrofits in less than a year, with an estimated $250,000 worth of work completed and energy savings of 25%.
Bringing a program like iCAST to Routt County will stimulate the local economy, increase property values and the resulting tax revenues, and allow the community access to additional grant funding and incentives to perpetuate county-wide energy efficiency programs.
YVSC is excited to team up with Resource Smart, YVEA and SSBC to develop the Energy FIT Initiative – a unique, simple energy efficiency improvement program designed to provide a hassle-free experience that will help building owners save money and reduce energy consumption, create a more comfortable and safe home or building, and positively impact the local economy for years to come.
